Ageing with HIV Phase 2 –
Children and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS (aged 0-25)

Timeline: June 2016 to January 2017

 

Objectives and Expected Outcomes

 

The Main objectives are:

 

  • To increase community knowledge on medical and psychosocial aspects of people ageing with HIV aged under 25 who were born with HIV.

  • To identify and raise awareness regarding unmet care needs for People ageing with HIV in this age cohort and identify research gaps.

  • To empower people young people ageing with HIV to make informed decisions regarding their treatment.

  • To provide networking opportunities for establishing collaborative efforts to advocate for priorities for people ageing with HIV aged under 25 who were born with HIV.

 

The main Expected Outcomes are:

 

  • To have increased awareness within the patients’ community; researchers; healthcare providers and other key stakeholders of the clinical and psychosocial unmet needs of people ageing with HIV aged under 25 who were born with HIV.

  • To have advocacy needs identified in order to better respond to the varied needs of people ageing with HIV aged under 25 who were born with HIV.

  • To be able to develop policy recommendations for more appropriate and focused responses on prevention, testing and treatment for people ageing with HIV aged under 25 how were born with HIV.

 

Milestones, Deliverables and Activities

 

The planned Milestones are:

 

  • A Stakeholders’ meeting focused on:

    • Clinical aspects of perinatal HIV infections.

    • Social developments of this population.

    • Effects of ARV’s in young “ageing” bodies and the long term effects of the developing body.

    • Future health care system for this population.

    • Best practices and possible collaborations with emerging countries.
      Planned Conference date and location: from 19 to 22 January 2017 in Bucharest, Romania

  • Three thematic webinars focusing the medical and psychosocial aspects of ageing with HIV/AIDS and the unmet needs of children and adolescents ageing with HIV/AIDS aged 0 to 25.
    Planned dates: October, November and December 2016

  • The promotion of ageing as important topic for increased research, focus and support via the organisation of events that highlight ageing (seminars during conferences; discussion about the role of cohort studies etc)


The Main Deliverables are:

 

  • Training Packages which will be delivered through a series of three webinars in preparation of the stakeholders meeting. The training content will concern on the medical and psychosocial concerning PLHIV/AIDS aged under 25 who were born with HIV.

  • All the training materials will be made available for future use.

  • A resource document providing the latest research on the medical and psychosocial issues concerning PLHIV/AIDS aged under 25 who were born with HIV, International guidelines and recommendations, and main Initiatives taking place in this domain. It is intended that these documents may be used as a source of information for the development of advocacy activities.

  • Stakeholders’ Meeting Report which would contain the main meeting findings concerning the met and the unmet needs of PLHIV/AIDS who were born with HIV - under 25 years old - and and the identified advocacy and policy demands.

  • Written policy recommendations addressing the medical, psychosocial needs of PLHIV/AIDS who are were born with HIV - under 25 years old . It is intended that the policy recommendations may be used as contribution to the future development of standards of care for PLHIV/AIDS in this age band.

 

The planned Activities are:

 

  • Preparation of the 2nd series of webinars.

  • Preparation of the 2nd multi-stakeholders conference.

  • Development of the 2nd multi-stakeholders meeting report.

  • Dissemination of the key findings/2nd multi-stakeholders meeting report.

  • Dissemination of Policy recommendations.

 

Target Groups:

 

Patients’ community, including family; healthcare providers; researchers and other key stakeholders involved in HIV research and care of children, adolescents and young people.
